Observation Narrative
Plot situated ca. 120 m north of Bald Mountain Trail and south of the first "A" in the word "NATIONAL" shown on the 1982 quad map. The southern aspect and the upper slope position suggest good air drainage, and late killing frosts are probably rare (judging from the health and abundance of Quercus ilicifolia). Measured trees (dbh in cm.): Quercus montana (10-20), Pinus rigida (ca. 15), Pinus pungens (ca. 15). Sparse moss cover. Species noted include Leucubryum glauc. And Dicranum
This site is more level and has fewer stones than described in survey. O= 4 cm. poorly decomposed duff. A=10 cm. dark brown loamy sand. B= 50 cm. light brown loamy sand, about 2% gravel.
